- advice on how to avoid any dry spells

Lazy and you’re lost…

It is still surprising just how many people in our industry do not follow set procedures in their cleaning technique and apply a similar discipline to a system for generating recommendations.

I think you’ll agree - if you know how to do a job properly, then why not do it and establish your reputation for high quality work. Why not trade on that customers satisfaction and encourage recommendation to their family and friends. Unfortunately the main reason is our natural laziness and it costs us all vital business growth.

All professional operators who have attended a recognised training course will know the stages of cleaning to follow –

•    Thorough dry vacuum to remove dry soilage and pet hairs.
•    Pre-spray to loosen stuck on absorbed soilage.
•    Thorough rinse extract to remove soilage.
•    Fix colour and de-odourise.
•    Groom pile and fast-dry.

Do this and you will have unbeatable results. Let your customers know that this is what you will do - and no cut-price operator will be able to match your quality of work.

The only sure way of telling your customers is to create a small corporate brochure, laying down your method statement, health and safety information (product safety data sheets available on request etc). Include action cleaning photographs to add credibility and create interest. Also include your NCCA membership number and full insurance cover. Always let your customers know about any ancillary services you offer (such as curtain cleaning, stain protection or dust mite treatments).

A brochure will not only help you to promote your quotations but should be given to customers in quantities of approximately six - one to retain for their own use and five to pass on with recommendations.

Information from the brochure can then easily be used to create a web-site - fast becoming the way customers look for products and services. These are now cheaper to purchase and easier to maintain than ever before.

If you establish and adhere to a routine of giving brochures at the end of each job, you will be amazed at the growth of your customer base. Don’t get lazy, you must promote yourself – it’s the cheapest and best advertising you can have.
