Down The Drain
Prior to the floods of 2007, many areas in the South of England were subjected to a hose-pipe ban, lasting over two years. Residents & businesses in these areas looked forward to the implementation of further legislation and restrictions to ensure water was used responsibly.
Aside from leaks, one act that continues to pour thousands of litres of water down the drain is flushing the urinal. On average these flush about 10 litres of clean water 36 times each day, which equates to about 131 thousand litres of clean water down the drain every year from each urinal, and considering there are approximately 10 million urinals in the UK, this adds-up to a heck of a lot of water being flushed down the drain wastefully.
Now consider the cost.
On average each business will be paying around £1.25 per cubic meter(thousand litres), so each urinal will use about £169.00 worth of water each year.
